Listing criteria

SAKADACHI lists Tokyo bars where you can walk in alone, have one drink standing up, and leave. Every listing is decided by the editorial team, one venue at a time. Advertising or tie-ups do not change what is listed, and there is no way for an advertiser to pick venues.

What we list

  • Tachinomi — standing bars built around a counter or standing tables.
  • Stand bars — casual one-drink places in the same spirit.
  • Kakuuchi — a drinking corner inside a liquor shop.
  • Mixed venues are listed when standing is the main way to drink there.

What we do not list

  • Cocktail bars and bars meant for a long seated evening
  • Places built around tables or reservations, where sitting down is the real format
  • Members-only, course-only or private-room venues where one quick drink is not an option
  • Cafés and restaurants where food or coffee comes first
  • Liquor shops with no place to drink on site
  • Chains (only a handful that genuinely add to standing-bar culture are listed as exceptions)

When in doubt, we leave it out

If we cannot confirm that a venue is a standing bar, we hold it back rather than guess. We rely on what the venue says on its own website or social accounts, or what we see in person.

Delisting

Venues that close, move, go on long hiatus, switch to seating, or cannot be confirmed as standing bars are removed. They come back when we learn they have reopened. Opening hours and closing days on a venue page come from the venue's website, social accounts and Google; check the venue's own notices for the latest.

No rankings

We do not publish "top 10" lists or popularity rankings. Suggestions are based on context: what is open right now, distance from the station, whether it is a kakuuchi.
